Caring for Your Foam

Caring for foam is truly not much different than caring for a regular mattress, but we do emphasize these ideas because we care about customer satisfaction and prolonging the life of our product.

Foam needs to breathe, as do all types of standard mattresses. Slatted frames work best under foam because they allow air flow. This prevents moisture build-up caused by humidity and body moisture.

Every six months (or less if you like), either spin your mattress head-end to foot-end, OR flip your foam mattress over. This will give you more even wear and prolong the life of your mattress. This not only works for foam, but for ANY mattress. If you flip your mattress, then in six months, spin it head-end to foot-end. If you spin your mattress, then in six months, flip it.

Foam is sold by WEIGHT not HARDNESS. The weight is the density, the hardness is the compression. Understanding this concept, we are well on the way to helping you determine the right foam for your needs. Understand that weight is the key to longevity, to a point. Once the foam reaches a heaviness of 2 lbs per cubic foot, the manufacturer needs to use a better polymer to make any difference in the foam's longevity. With foam, the weight/length of use is determined by pounds of foam per cubic foot. A one pound foam is half the weight of a two pound foam, BUT for the same size of each weight, a one pound foam may last 60 nights of adult use, the two pound foam will last 5-7 years of adult every-night use. For example, when baking, if you add more salt and yeast, you can make the bread rise higher, but the loaf doesn't weigh any more. The same concept works when talking about foam firmness. By using different mixes, different firmnesses can be achieved without varying the weight. A heavy foam with a soft compression will have the same length of wear as a heavy foam with an extra firm compression.
